New Jersey Executive Director

Position Overview

The New Jersey Executive Director leads America Needs You – New Jersey and is responsible for its strategy, performance, funding and success. The Executive Director establishes and maintains relationships with local stakeholders, cultivates funding sources and manages the program (100+ students annually), staff, board and volunteers. The Executive Director works with the CEO, COO and the Chief Development Officer to set local strategy and growth plans in accordance with the national ANY Strategic Plan.

This position requires a commitment to our mission and work, a track-record of achieving excellence, proven success in management and fundraising, and the ability to oversee the day-to-day operations of a growing organization. The Executive Director reports directly to the CEO of America Needs You.

Responsibilities

Outreach and Development: work with the Chief Development Officer and the CEO to design and implement an effective local fundraising strategy; build a sustainable and diversified local funding base that includes individuals, corporations, foundations and public sources; plan special events; secure in-kind support; and serve as the external face of America Needs You – New Jersey by building and managing relationships with the philanthropic community, key organizations and the media;
Board Management and Development: engage current board members and identify a diverse group of new members that will maximize impact and resources; manage board communications and facilitate quarterly meetings;
Program: work with the New Jersey Program Manager and the COO to establish programmatic goals in New Jersey and maximize our impact in the short and long run; ensure program quality and consistency with other ANY sites; supervise Fellow and volunteer recruitment and selection; develop and manage partnerships with stakeholders including college and university partners; manage twice monthly Saturday workshops for Fellow classes, including managing all staff, students, volunteers, speakers, activities, and events associated with the workshop; and source internships from corporate partners;
Staff Management: lead the local team (Program Manager and Program Coordinator), oversee training and management, and ensure efficient office operations; and
Financial Management: assist the Director of Finance and Technology of America Needs You in the budgeting process and developing a multi-year operating budget; manage the day-to-day operations.

Skills and Qualifications

Advanced degree preferred, Bachelor’s Degree required
Outstanding relationship management and communication skills
Proven skills and experience in fundraising and moves management
Knowledge of New Jersey’s educational, civic and philanthropic landscape
Ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including college students, volunteers, university partners, board members and donors
Ability to mobilize small and large groups to action
Commitment to outcomes driven performance
Proven track record of program development and implementation
Ability to lead a program within a larger national network
Excellent public speaking, writing and editing skills
Significant supervisory experience
Strong understanding of technology and information systems pertinent to the role (Salesforce, Causeview, Haiku, Wizehive)
As ANY workshops are held on Saturdays, this position will require flexibility and willingness to work nontraditional work hours

New Jersey Program Coordinator

Position Description

America Needs You – New Jersey was launched in 2012. The New Jersey Program includes 20 Saturday workshops and several additional transfer support sessions and program events per year. This local site delivers professional development workshops to two classes of 50 Fellows (ambitious, first-generation college students) and their Mentor Coaches (accomplished young professionals). The New Jersey team works with national staff on curriculum design and development, provides holistic support to Fellows and recruits a new class of Fellows and Mentor Coaches each year.

As Program Coordinator, you will serve as a main point of contact for Fellows and Mentor Coaches. You will provide holistic support to Fellows, including counseling Fellows through personal, academic, and professional challenges and helping them source and secure internships. The ideal candidate will have experience providing case management or academic/career advisement to college-aged students, will be highly-organized and will enjoy public speaking, multi-tasking and team collaboration.

New York Program Coordinator

The New York site runs 20 Saturday workshops per year, along with providing case management support for Fellows and Mentor Coaches and recruiting a new class of 100 pairs each year. The Program Coordinator is expected to stay in close contact with Fellows by phone and in-person meetings and to plan, facilitate and provide logistical support during workshops. This position serves as the primary finance, administration and technology resource for the organization, ensuring a strong and collaborative process across departments with regard to budget creation and management, cash-flow management, grants compliance, Board presentations, general administration and technology-related projects. The Director of Finance and Administration reports directly to the CEO and manages the Business Manager. The ideal candidate will have fiscal management and database experience with a proven track record of working in a high-impact, growing organization.

Development and Communications Manager

This is an exciting, full-time opportunity to help shape the fundraising and communications strategy of a rapidly growing, national nonprofit organization. The Development and Communications Manager will be responsible for developing key messages and brand strategy and will play a leadership role in ensuring their consistent use throughout the organization. This position will also support and contribute to the overall strategy and creation of communications materials geared towards individual donors, media and the general public, including website content, social media, email newsletters, donor solicitations and annual fundraising event materials.

The Development and Communications Manager will work with the Chief Development Officer and Director of Development to ensure that we achieve our fundraising goals by enhancing existing strategies, contributing to a long-term fund development and communications plan and supporting relationships with the funding community to create a strong support base for our organization. The Development and Communications Manager ensures that we have successful special events, a robust individual giving program and an accurate fundraising database. The Development and Communications Manager reports directly to the Director of Development and will work closely with the Chief Development Officer and other senior staff to increase the impact of our work. The ideal candidate will have fundraising experience, including knowledge of special events, relationship management and a clean database.

Illinois Program Intern – Fall 2016

We do this by providing intensive career development and transformative mentorship to enable students to realize their academic and career aspirations. ANY operates in New York, New Jersey, Illinois, and California. We have achieved remarkable growth in the past 5 years by mobilizing hundreds of volunteers to increase the number of students we annually serve in our intensive Fellows Program from 50 to 500. Our Illinois Program team is looking for an entrepreneurial, dynamic Intern who is excited about working in a progressive nonprofit environment. The Illinois Program Intern will have the opportunity to work directly with the Illinois Executive Director and learn about various aspects of nonprofit and program management. The Illinois Program team works with America Needs You to design, develop, and deliver curricula for 28 workshops per year, which is delivered to two classes of Fellows. Program Interns provide support to team members, specifically focusing on Fellow recruitment, data management and analysis, and documenting programmatic policies and procedures. There may also be opportunities to manage logistics and event management for Saturday workshop and evening industry seminars. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, have strong written and verbal communication skills, will be highly-organized, and enjoy multi-tasking and team collaboration. This is an unpaid internship, eligible for academic credit.

The Program team runs 28 professional development workshops per year on Saturdays, provides case management and holistic support for Fellows, and recruits for a new Fellow class. We are looking for an energetic and detail-oriented college student to be our Program and Events Intern.  This person will learn what it takes to organize, manage, and evaluate a successful nonprofit program.  The intern will provide support to team members,  focusing on Fellow recruitment, workshop logistics and management, and program evaluation.  The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, has strong verbal communication skills, is highly-organized, and enjoys multi-tasking and team collaboration. This is a college credit opportunity, up to 20 hours a week.

New Jersey Social Media and Communications Intern – Fall 2016

We are looking for an energetic, detail-oriented, and organized individual to be our Social Media and Communications Intern. The Intern will learn about nonprofit media, marketing, and brand management. This individual will help promote the NJ Fellow and Mentor Coach experience through a variety of social media and stakeholder outlets. In order to showcase the accomplishments of program participants, the Social Media and Communications Intern will help generate content that can be used on social media, as well as on additional platforms (e.g., ANY monthly newsletter, traditional media, etc.). This intern will tell our story through photographs and interviews, on Facebook and Twitter, and help us coordinate messaging to partners. The ideal candidate is collaborative, has strong written and verbal communication skills, is curious about marketing and media, and will enjoy interacting with our vast network of young professionals and college students. Most importantly – the ideal candidate will enjoy finding creative and innovative ways to tell a story.

This individual must be able to travel to universities and colleges in northern New Jersey, and be willing to work 1-2 Saturdays a month (schedule is already set). This position is scheduled from January to May at 15-20 hours/week. This is a college credit opportunity. Prior internship or volunteer experience with a nonprofit is preferred, but not required.

The Executive Office Intern works directly with the CEO of America Needs You. The position requires excellent communication skills, professionalism, resourcefulness, ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines concurrently and a strong interest in nonprofit management. The intern will be exposed to a fast-paced, dynamic work environment in a progressive nonprofit. The intern will learn about all aspects of nonprofit management, including but not limited to: expansion, board management, donor outreach, internal and external meetings and communication, special events and brand building. The intern will be assigned a variety of tasks necessary for the internal and external operation of the Executive Office and will have the opportunity to take part in calls and meetings with the CEO of America Needs You.
