Politics and Law have been two of my greatest interests since middle school, to the extent that I started working on local political races as early as my second year of high school. My quest for knowledge in politics and law continued when I decided to pursue a BA in Political Science at Seton Hall University in an effort to position myself for law school.
Although my passion for politics materialized in high school, its roots rest much earlier in my life. My family and I arrived in Newark, NJ from Colombia when I was just four years old. I recognized the amount of influence that a lawyer could wield when my family was granted political refuge in an immigration court proceeding. This experience opened my eyes to the impact of the legal system for families with no other recourse
Having recognized the power of a Juris Doctor degree, I hope to practice law as a private attorney and also focus my pro bono work on families like mine. I started taking my first steps toward this goal by interning for the Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Newark, the same non-profit that helped my family seek refuge in the United States, and by becoming a Fellow at America Needs You. I look forward to the many other professional development and internship opportunities ANY will provide in my effort to better myself and my community.
