I am a generation college student attending the University of Illinois at Chicago, perusing a degree in Marketing with a minor in Psychology. I want to make my parents proud by being the first to graduate college, and set the example for my little brother. My father works long hours almost all seven days a week in order to provide for me and my brother. He is my motivation to work hard. When I feel like giving up I tell myself that if he doesn’t give up when he gets tired, neither can I.
Growing up my family always had financial barriers, and because of this, and several internships that I have had, I decided to peruse a degree in Marketing. I want to understand how businesses work, and learn more about the movement of money. With this knowledge, I can help my parents become more financially savvy.
Being a part of America Needs You Illinois is such a blessing to me because my first semester of college was very hard for me. I had no understanding of how anything worked. Now that I will have a Mentor Coach, they can help me navigate college better. Additionally, by helping me get internships, I will also have a better understanding of the business world, and what to expect when I graduate college. I am very grateful for this opportunity that gets me one step closer to my dreams.
