I am a proud Hispanic American living in Washington Heights, New York. Growing up around a lot of negativity, it was difficult for me to stay motivated and be serious about my education. Fortunately, I had outside resources such as school counselors, basketball coaches, and teachers who helped me see the value of an education. Because I learned that the key to success is education, I decided to attend the City College of New York.
Wanting to learn about human behaviors and motivations, I chose to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Psychology. Because I am highly motivated in working with students, I decided to volunteer as the head basketball coach for the middle school I attended called Incarnation School. I believe all students should have someone motivating and supporting them in their times of need just as I had. My goal is to be in a career where I can serve students in their areas of need; guidance, motivation, and support.
As a Fellow of America Needs You, I will enhance my leadership, speaking, and critical thinking skills. These skills are what I need if I want students to feel comfortable asking me for help. Being part of America Needs You is an opportunity to grow, network, and challenge oneself. Having the privilege to work one on one with a Mentor Coach will make me feel confident and ready for any challenges that I am dealt with. It is truly a blessing!
