Amanda

I am a first generation college student coming from a family that originates from the Caribbean. My family has taught me the value of independence, awareness, and perseverance. Having to grow up in the more secluded section of Queens allowed me to experience what it’s like to live like a suburban child such as playing in open spaces. However, since I still lived in New York City I encountered diverse environments and by having to do so I learned how to adapt to under different circumstances.
I am still exploring career options, but I enjoy traveling which includes learning about different cultures and reading. I want to do work that allows me to be entrepreneurial because I enjoy the independence. I can see myself working with a team of people that have different strengths, sharing ideas and solving problems.
Being an America Needs You Fellow is significant to me because I think it is important to learn as much as I can from others. Being surrounded by people that have the same determination as me is motivating. I’m looking forward to discovering my career path, fulfilling goals, and connecting with multiple people through this program.
