I am currently a sophomore attending the City College of New York. I was born in Ecuador but moved to the United States when I was twelve years old. Persistence, resilience, and hard work helped me overcome the language barrier I faced and helped me find the passion that has driven me all the way to college. I am currently working towards a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and hope to attain my master’s degree afterward.
My passion towards engineering began when I was 12 years old. It was a time when my science fair project was selected to be presented at the Hall of Science in Flushing, New York. In that project I built a simple motor using a variety of household items. During my attempts on building the motor I went through several failures but I never gave up. After several attempts, a spark occurred and set in motion two events in my life. One, the motor began to rotate and another was that it sparked a curiosity in me to learn how things function.
In my first semester in college, I have been exposed to different paths the world of engineering can take me. This experience has motivated me to continue to explore the different modes of engineering. I hope that with the help of America Needs You, I will be able to enhance my public speaking and leadership skills.
