I was born in New York and raised in the Dominican Republic. I returned to the United States in 2011 to continue my education and am now a rising sophomore at the City College of New York, majoring in Biology. My goal upon graduation is to pursue a career in medicine.
Growing up in the Dominican Republic, I watched the hardships and challenges experienced by those ill in my town due to the local hospital’s lack of proper medical assistance. Witnessing this unfairness and being unable to assist these people made me feel helpless initially. However, this quickly motivated me to strive to help people who faced unfortunate medical situations and sparked my desire to become a doctor. I am currently working as a tutor at my college, helping my fellow students by providing them with the support and confidence they need to achieve their own goals. I really enjoy providing support and assistance to them and hope to continue this in the future.
America Needs You provides numerous opportunities and workshops to help me reach my goals such as networking techniques, thought partnering, and access to professional guidance, all of which will help me broaden my knowledge and experience in different working environments. I will then be able to assist my community more efficiently and, hopefully, become the medical doctor I wish to become.
