I was born in New York City but my parents sent me to live in their hometown of Fu Zhou, China shortly after so that they could focus on creating a better life for me here in the United States. I returned when I was 5 years old and spent the remainder of my childhood and adolescence in the suburbs of Long Island. My parents engrained in me the importance of education and diligence, and with that mentality I was able to graduate at the top of my class. I want to show my appreciation for everything that my parents have provided me by striving for my greatest potential.
Currently, I am a rising sophomore attending the Macaulay Honors program at Hunter College. My intended major is Economics and I would love to one day apply my knowledge and skills to the business field. Interacting with various people, creating and accomplishing goals, decision-making and problem-solving are all aspects of business that make it a challenging yet satisfying field. I currently work for Xi’an Famous Foods, a rapidly expanding chain of restaurants in New York City, and the experience has shown me that I enjoy analyzing the inner workings of the company and finding ways that it could operate more efficiently. I do have a huge passion for food and so I would one day love to combine that passion with the practicality and versatility of business.
Being a part of the America Needs You family surrounds me with motivated peers who are also first-generation college students and Mentor Coaches who have much experience in the professional world to back up the wealth of knowledge that they impart on us. Through workshops, internships, and mentoring, I am hoping to push my boundaries and develop both personally and professionally in the next two years and beyond.
