Life has put many obstacles in my life but I managed to overcome them. My parents immigrated from Mexico to build our lives from scratch in the United States. Their hard work and desire to make a better life for our family has taught me at a very young age to be self-sufficient and a proactive problem solver.

When I was fourteen years old, my mom was diagnosed with cancer. At that young age, I took a break from school to accompany my mom to her doctor’s appointments. Seeing my mom face her personal challenges head on motivated me to finish high school and to be the first in my family to pursue a college degree. I am attending North Park University where I am pursuing a degree in sociology. Ultimately I will use my degree to help people in need. One day, I plan to make a change in this world.

America Needs You will make a difference in my career path. I am excited to be paired with a Mentor Coach who will help guide me through career decisions. Also, with the networks in the ANY program I will be able to find and secure internships, which will allow me to gain essential experience in my career field. With a college degree and refinement of my professional skills through America Needs You, I will be equipped to help the community and will make my parents proud.
