Born in a small city in Mexico and raised in the South side of Chicago, I have always wanted to give back to my community and family. I come from a single parent home yet have never felt that I was a disadvantage. I thank my family, friends and overall support group for that. As a current student at North Park University considering majoring in Biology, I have grown an interest for a variety of things, the most important being health care and advocacy for minorities.
As a minority myself, I have seen how difficult it is for minorities to obtain quality health care. I want to have the opportunity to either change the policies around health care or provide support and encouragement to individuals to make better decisions with their health. In the end, my goal is to provide to those in need with the correct resources to better themselves.
My path has not always been the easiest, from having to read from outdated textbooks in elementary and high school to obtaining a full paid tuition at a private university. I have always been strong and have succeeded my challenges. In part I thank the many people that have helped me along the way, weather it has been a relative, mentor from school or my leaders from church, someone has always been there to grant me a piece of advice that has shaped my path and led me to my current state and guide me towards my future.
I am honored to be a Fellow, I know that through America Needs You I will be able to find someone who can help me decide which path is best for me.
