My parents brought my family from Mexico to the U.S. in order for us to have a better future. Their hard work and countless sacrifices haven’t been in vain as I am the first person from my whole family to attend college. I am studying at Arrupe College of Loyola University for my associate degree and plan to transfer to a 4-year institution for a bachelor’s degree in political science.
As an immigrant, I have come across various adversities denying me simple rights. Thus, I want to pursue a career within government because I want to be able to help immigrants and others that are discriminated as I’ve personally experienced the refusal from what should be basic human rights. Government has the ability to make a positive change in society and I want to contribute so that everyone, irrespective of their background, has equal access to a better future. I am an active leader on campus, serving in office for various student organizations including student government. My personal experiences and passion to help others make me a strong candidate for a career within government.
