I came to the United States from Ecuador when I was five years old. At such a young age, I had to overcome a language and cultural barrier. Although it was not easy, I did not give up and was able to overcome that challenge. Currently, I attend Lehman College and am considering a major in Nutrition or Nursing. I know with my motivation and drive, I will receive my bachelor’s degree and enter the professional world.
Over the summer of 2016, I took a five-week summer course in Anatomy and Physiology. This experience opened my eyes to how important the human body is and how essential it is for people to properly take care of themselves. A goal of mine is to help the community and especially our youth. I have experience in volunteering at a local medical center reading to the children who wait for their appointments. Many of the patients were minorities and came from a low-income background. I found the experience very rewarding because seeing the kids smile and their drive to learn revealed how important it is to help nurture and care for the youth in any way possible.
America Needs You and my Mentor Coach will assist me in professional development, open doors to great internship opportunities, and ultimately prepare me for the real world. I am thankful to be part of the ANY Fellows Program and will work hard to reach my goals.
