I was raised in Harlem within a single parent household, and as a minority. To many, these are enough reasons to be expected to fail. For me, these reasons have become my motivation to accomplish my goals. I am currently a sophomore at Bronx Community College working towards an associate degree in Liberal Arts and Science. My goal is to transfer to a senior college in order to receive my bachelor’s degree. Although I am currently still exploring degree programs, one thing I know is that I want to provide students who come from low-income communities with the guidance and skills they need in order to succeed.
I am currently part of a nonprofit called All Stars, which focuses on students’ personal development through the arts. My hope is that my work at this nonprofit will expose students to the many options that are available to them.
Being a member of the New York Fellows Program not only provides me with a Mentor Coach who can guide me in the right direction, but also gives me the opportunity become exposed to different careers which can ultimately help me decide on the profession that is right for me.
