My parents immigrated to America from the Philippines. They have worked so hard to learned the language, assimilate into the culture, and raise two children. As a result of all their hard work, both my sister and I were able to pursue four-year degrees.
Since I am the second person in my family to attend college in America, and the first to attend a four-year university, I hold very high expectations for myself. I am currently a student at DePaul University pursuing a major in Business Marketing. After I graduate, I hope to have a career that allows me to facilitate communication between the U.S. and Chinese markets. As a Mandarin Chinese speaker with plans to continue studying the language, I hope to find an occupation that will help me sustain and expand my skills towards near-native fluency.
The America Needs You (ANY) Fellows Program has enabled me to shine a light on the possibilities of what I can truly become. The great achievements that the Illinois Mentor Coaches have under their belt are such inspirational feats, and have motivated me to passionately push towards my own professional goals.
