Ever since I was young, my parents instilled in me the idea that school is my opportunity to achieve a career and better quality of life. My parents told my siblings and I, “going to work is our job; your job is to bring home A’s from school.” I did as I was told. Eventually, I decided to go to Rutgers University – New Brunswick because it is cost efficient, close to home and one of the top universities in the state.
I am pursuing a degree in Computer Science at Rutgers University. Ever since my dad brought home our first computer, I have been fascinated with computers. And at that moment, I knew that I found my future career. My goal is to become a software engineer and one day manage my own startup. I consider the process of developing applications/programs an art form, and that is what I enjoy the most about programming. I know the career path I have chosen is not an easy one, but I am excited about the challenges that I will face.
I am grateful to be an America Needs You Fellow because I am surrounded by likeminded students who are striving to succeed. Also through this program, I am exposed to professionals from a variety of industries. I look forward to working with all of the Fellows and Mentor Coaches and to helping one another accomplish our goals.
