When I was young, I developed a curiosity for the way new technology worked and was made. Although my hometown in Colombia lacked many educational opportunities, I always found a way to learn. I often came up with new ideas for machines and ways to build things, hoping that someday I would be able to make them a reality. At the age of thirteen I came to the United States to achieve a better future and pursue these dreams.
I am currently enrolled as a sophomore at the City College of New York pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. My future goals are to work in aircraft mechanics to create and improve technology that will help not only my community, but the general public as well. I consider myself to be a persistent and determined woman, and hope to serve as role model for my three younger siblings. I hope they will take advantage of every opportunity this country affords, just as I have tried to do.
As part of the New York Fellows Program, I am excited to build my career and expand my network through workshops, mentorship, and internships. I hope to gain more experience in my field, grow my skills, and fulfill my dreams. I am extremely grateful to be a Fellow, and I am confident that together we will succeed.
