I am a Macaulay Honors student at Lehman College pursing a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science. Currently, I am the Secretary of the Lehman College Nutrition Club and a volunteer with the Leave It Better Foundation. These experiences will be useful in my future profession of Physical Therapy by strengthening my communication skills and preparing me to appropriately disseminate information to specific populations.
As I grew older, I watched my mother struggle to support my brother and me by working late night shifts and making sure we could have an enjoyable childhood. She constantly put our needs before her own. As a single mother who emigrated from Jamaica, my mother instilled in me the high values of education and advancement in society. Due to these experiences, I desire to assist low-income families of the underrepresented population by establishing a wellness-centered healthcare clinic.
ANY will provide me with the resources to accomplish my professional goals and give me a greater opportunity to learn from and network with others. The connections that I form with students and my Mentor Coach will encourage me to push forward and grow to my full potential. I am delighted to be a 2015 New York Fellow!
