Elizabeth

I was born and raised in the Bronx to Salvadorian parents. Though neither of my parents were able to finish school, both of them have sacrificed a lot to provide the best education for my siblings and me. Their hard work and determination are what drive my desire to succeed.

I am currently a rising sophomore at Lehman College working toward a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing in hope of pursuing a career as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. I am passionate about giving back to my community and developed an interest in health care while studying the health disparities present in different communities. I intend to raise awareness about this existing issue and work to prevent their growth and effects on the health of children and young adults. Volunteering for the New York Cares program and serving as a member of the Minority Association of Pre-Health Students Club and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars have given me the opportunity to explore my field of interest while enhancing my skills. But most importantly these positions allow me to pursue my passion for helping others.

I am excited to be a part of America Needs You. This program will help me to continue to explore my professional interests while encouraging my personal development by providing me with many opportunities that I may not have had access to otherwise. I know this program will further improve my personal, academic and professional skills through its mentoring sessions, workshops and networking opportunities.
