Being a single mother’s only child, my mother instilled in me values such as respect and hard work. I migrated to America in 2009 from Ghana, and life wasn’t always easy. I had to work hard on getting my documents in order to be able to go back to school, because without it, I knew I couldn’t afford the high tuition rates.
I eventually had the opportunity to enroll in Borough of Manhattan Community College after five years. The silver lining in my story was how determined and motivated I was to be the best version of myself, and make a positive impact both in my college and my community. I recently became involved in student leadership programs and volunteering both on and off campus. I plan on transferring to a four-year college to pursue my bachelor’s degree in Communications and Marketing.
Growing up in a single parent household gave me the passion to be the voice of people facing similar situations. Thus, I would love to have the opportunity, resources, and platform to help such people. I am very grateful to be part of ANY and to be able to hone all the skills available from this amazing organization to propel me into achieving all goals in my academic, career, and personal life.
