Gnouma

I am originally from Guinea, but I grew up in Ivory Coast and I live for change. Coming from a community where many are not given the opportunity to be educated taught me to value my education and to work hard to help those in need. Immigrating to the United States in 2010 was a challenge, but my motivation and determination for success helped to go above and beyond my limits.

I am currently a student at Lehman College where I plan on majoring in Psychology. My passion for psychology comes from experiences in my community where I have witnessed people suffer emotionally, but struggle to find someone to whom they can express their feelings. I want to become the listening ear for those people so they will not feel alone. I want to be the solution to their problems in order to prevent them from hurting themselves and people that love them. My mission is to be someone who helps others make positive decisions in their lives. I am currently working toward that goal as an intern at GrowNYC, where I help educate and promote healthy eating habits to the community.

As a hardworking student, I believe that America Needs You will give me the opportunity to be more confident and develop my leadership skills. I hope that being in this amazing program will give me the ability to develop my networking skills and reach my short-term and long-term goals, so that I can impact my community positively.
