My family moved to the United States from Yemen so my siblings and I could earn a quality education and have our own slice of the American Dream. In our home state of North Carolina, we were taught to value our family, focus on our education and take advantage of all opportunities to grow. Those values have stayed with me throughout my life and have set the foundation for what I imagine to be a long and successful career pursuing my passion.
From a young age, I developed a strong interest in biology. I wanted to understand how the world around me works from the smallest molecule to the biggest star. At Lehman College, I decided to major in Biology and I have also begun pursuing coursework on the pre-med track. I’m currently interning at Montefiore Hospital where I’ve learned about a number of healthcare professions from open-heart surgery to physical therapy. I really enjoy working with patients and educating them on what it takes to become healthy.
Through this experience, I realized that my interest in medicine stems far beyond the technical science and is grounded significantly in my desire to give back to my community. I believe ANY will help me pursue my dreams, by equipping me with the tools I need to be successful, supporting me in my professional and personal development, and exposing me to a network of like-minded Fellows and Mentor Coaches invested in our collective success.
