Hugo

I am the oldest son of Mexican Immigrants parents, who left behind their loved ones in their homeland to obtain a brighter future and financial success. I grew up watching first-hand the difficulties they had to endure to achieve their own American dream. As foreigners in a new world, they were forced to work two jobs each so that we could get by.

I am proud to be the first person in my family to attend college. I decided to pursue a career in Physical Therapy, because I witnessed the difference that PT can make in a person’s life. For example, my younger brother was in an accident that damaged his left leg. We were told that without proper care and treatment he would never be able to walk normally again. He worked with a Physical Therapist who ended up changing everything for my brother.

America Needs You has helped re-ignite the fire that motivated me to strive for a better future through education. I am thankful that I was given this amazing opportunity to develop professional skills I wasn’t aware I possessed. I look forward to the future that I can now achieve with the help of America Needs You. I compare my story to that of Plato’s Allegory of the Cave, and once I am free of my shackles, I’ll return to the program, as a Mentor Coach to help those that want to achieve success.
