My father named me Integra, because he understood the importance of having integrity. He hoped my name would be a constant reminder of how I should live my life. My daily experiences have helped me fully understand the concept of integrity. I always see this quality demonstrated by those who work in the healthcare industry.
During my childhood, I was constantly hospitalized due to chronic illnesses. However, the staff members at each hospital I recovered at modeled integrity, selflessness, and patience. They transformed my hospital stay from gloomy to optimistic. As a result of those experiences, I plan to purse a degree in a healthcare-related major, while attending the University of Illinois at Chicago. I want to give back to those in need of medical care.
I know that being an American Needs You Fellow will allow me to gain more experience within the healthcare field. Through interactions with the ANY staff, Mentor Coaches, and Fellows at workshops, I will grow professionally and personally, so that I can be the best healthcare provider possible. This is an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that I plan to take full advantage of.
