Jacqueline

I am the only person in my family who was born in the United States. My family emigrated from Mexico before I was born. My family and I have faced many obstacles, but we have always managed to get past them. Similar to how there is a rainbow after each storm, my mother has always told me to think positive no matter what and always be patient. She’s the reason I am who I am. I want to give back to her what she has given me, and more.

Currently, I am a sophomore at Northeastern Illinois University. I am majoring in Bilingual/Bicultural Education. I plan to become a bilingual elementary school teacher. I love working with children, and I have the patience to work with them. I want to become a teacher because I want to guide children in the right path, and show them that school is a fun and safe place. I know that there are many children who go through a lot on a daily basis, and I want to make them happy. I hope to show my future students that I’m not only their teacher, but I am also someone they can talk to.

I am excited to be part of the America Needs You Fellows Program. Meeting so many wonderful and inspiring Mentor Coaches has been eye-opening. I have learned many new things from them and the other Fellows. I can’t wait to reach my dreams with their help!
