I was born in a small country in South America called Guyana. Immigrating to the United States has been a learning experience and helped me grow tremendously. Seeing my parents work hard to make my brothers and me happy only makes me more dedicated to having a successful future. I have always admired the fact that my parents never complained about all the hardships they endured. They continued to work hard and provide whatever we needed. With that in mind, I am determined and motivated to work harder and fulfill my parent’s dream.
Currently, I am a rising sophomore at Queens College majoring in Accounting and Economics. I have always had a passion for business and I decided to focus on accounting because it is the language of business. I enjoy working with people and numbers and I feel that this degree will open many doors for me. One of my goals is to become a Certified Public Accountant. I am trying my best to land an internship at one of the top 4 accounting firms and I will work very hard to accomplish this. My long term goal is to open my own accounting business and be the person my entire family turns to when they have accounting issues.
Becoming an America Needs You Fellow means a great deal to me. I am thankful for this opportunity because I know that the program will equip me with the skills I need to get through the challenges that lie ahead as I pursue my personal and professional goals. In time, I wish to be successful enough to become a Mentor Coach so I can motivate and assist students who need the same guidance that I have now.
