I moved to New York City from China at the age of six. Initially, growing up in a foreign country without knowing a speck of the language was certainly intimidating. But the people around me were very supportive and helped me become the person I am today. Now, I am proud to say that I am a first-generation college student at the Macaulay Honors College at Baruch College working towards a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and a minor in Computer Applications in Business.
Business has always intrigued and fascinated me. Whether it is a future in accounting or finance, I am actively exploring my opportunities within the business field. Currently, I am an accounting intern at a fund administrator. I mainly work with the accounts payable department to create entries and vouchers for our invoices and disperse checks. Additionally, I am responsible for the monthly inter-company billings and fixed assets depreciation reports. Combined with several other side projects, this has been an amazing and fulfilling experience so far.
I feel that the New York Fellows Program will also give me the same support and fulfillment that I received at my internship. The diverse network and progressive workshops will definitely be a determining factor in shaping the path of my professional career. This will be a great learning experience and I cannot wait to continue working with Fellows and Mentor Coaches. Although we’ve only had a couple of workshops, I can already tell joining America Needs You is one of the best decisions I have ever made.
