Although I was born in Brooklyn and raised in Queens Village, I consider New York as my home. Growing up with my single mother and grandfather, I saw the hard work and dedication they added towards a brighter future. In my neighborhood, local public schools had low graduation rates and low test scores. My mother and my grandfather agreed they would do anything to enroll me in Catholic school. As a team, my mother worked two jobs while my grandfather babysat me. Although my grandfather was illiterate, he always instilled that education is the only key to open doors of opportunities.
I am currently attending The City College of New York. My major is biology and I would like to pursue a career as a pediatrician. As a child, I saw my own pediatrician gave out candy to patients and the patients gave pictures to him. As I grew up, I wanted to have the same relationship. I love how my career creates an interactive bond with children and puts a smile on a child’s face.
Through ANY, I hope to accomplish improvements in my professional, social, and personal work. ANY will provide me numerous opportunities to enhance my career development and help me stay focused on my goals. More importantly, ANY has given me a second home where first-generation college students can relate to each other. Hearing from past Fellows has inspired me to believe that my impossible can be a possible at ANY.
