I am a hardworking, optimistic and dedicated young lady determined to achieve many things in my future. I am the first of three children born to the wonderful parents who emigrated from Mexico to the United States in the hopes of finding better opportunities not only for themselves but for their children. Despite the fact that both of my parents were unable to even begin high school, they have endlessly encouraged my siblings and me to continue our education with the hopes of one day seeing all three of us graduate from college and obtain a career that we truly love. At a very young age I realized that the greatest gift my parents have provided my siblings and me, aside from life, has been the chance to obtain an education in a country where the opportunities and possibilities for achievement seem endless.
Now in college, I see myself majoring in either Child Development or Biology. Truthfully I am still undecided, but I know I want to work in the medical field. In the end, any major I end up selecting I know I will graduate college with a Bachelor’s Degree and hopefully enter medical school afterwards. My career goal is to one day become a pediatrician or an obstetrician/gynecologist. I love children and I hope to help or bring into this world the future generations who will one day roam this earth. Who knows, maybe my career goals will change as I diverge myself into more courses, but I know that I want to be able to help, to make a change, and most importantly enjoy my career. My dream is to one day be able to join or even form a non-profit organization whose main objective is to help many individuals in need while traveling in various places across the world.
Through the NYNY Fellowship I hope to learn more about myself because I know there is more to me, and to every other fellow and mentor, than meets the eye. I want to overcome my shyness and be able to confidently present myself among new people, especially when it comes to internship, job, and medical school interviews. I want to bundle my passions and strengths into the ultimate package through the help of NYNY and offer it to the world. Lastly, I hope to get advice from individuals who have experienced what I will, as I pursue my career.
