I was born and raised in the South Central part of Los Angeles, California. My loving Mother dedicated the majority of her life to building me as a young educated Black male, while finishing high school as a single Mother. While doing so she instilled vital characteristics such as persistence and perseverance that I greatly appreciate and makes me standout as a person. At the age of two I met someone who is not biologically my Father but blood couldn’t have made us any closer. Being an only child my parents are my biggest supporters and sole motivators in becoming better and creating better for my current family as well as my future family. Currently I attend Cal State Bakersfield where I have chosen to major in Biomedical Engineering where I plan on focusing my career on find cures and medicines on diseases that have affected my community, my family, and as well as myself. The main reason I decided to pursue an education in medicine and health is because growing up seeing a lot of poverty among minorities, we tend to neglect health issues until fatal consequences occur.
One of the main attractions of being apart of an organization such as America Needs You (ANY) is the sense of belonging they provide as well as guidance. Most programs like this do not exist to inner city youths special black males, so being apart of this organization gives me another resource to become successful in meeting my goals and bettering my community. Being apart of similar programs, ANY consistently shows me the importance of networking and how an individual and their knowledge can make a huge difference one person at a time.
