Jorge

As a student at California State University Monterey Bay, where my major is Computer Science, my goal is to become an app developer or game designer. I am first generation Mexican-American. I grew in up in a bilingual household. I am fluent in Spanish. Being part of this household, I was instilled with the importance of family values and community. In college I got the chance to participate in a family event in a local city. But before college, I was very involved in giving back to my community, by volunteering at my local library and Children’s Institute. Those experiences are not the only opportunities of which I took advantage. I also got the chance to intern/shadow a community organizer at the thirteenth district of Los Angeles City Council; I am also fortunate that I was part of an extensive family through Students Run Los Angeles, which gave me the opportunity to train and motivate me to complete 5 LA Marathons. The training was all done with other peers of my old high school.

All of these events have motivated me and pushed me to strive to become a better person and keep working hard in everything that I set my mind to. Although things will get tough I know that I have endured many obstacles and am very capable of doing something as challenging as programming. Therefore, it is complicated at times, but I know the that I am surrounded by great people that I have had the chance to network with that will push me to succeed in anything I set out to do.
