I grew up in a town called Mastic, New York, a lower-middle class community, and spent my high school years running through the local parks for cross-country races. It was running that taught me the importance of teamwork and helped me gain an appreciation for our environment. This love for the environment would eventually lead to my involvement in the Bobwhite Quail project where we raise and release Quails in local parks on Long Island to combat the rising tick population.
It was during this project that I learned about politicians having a crucial role in protecting the environment by passing legislation. I soon began to realize how politicians are essential in providing a voice to those who couldn’t necessarily speak for themselves. Therefore my true passion is to someday be a voice for struggling families. Queens College was the perfect place to begin exercising my political voice and pursue a degree in Political Science. I had always known I was drawn to politics and often found myself watching campaigns and the news. I learned from these sources that I could have a political voice and my own ambitious nature drove me to find that voice.
America Needs You is giving me the resources and opportunities to make a change. ANY gives ambitious, first generation college students like me the guidance to be successful. It’s creating a ripple effect where a class of America Needs You Fellows grows and gains the knowledge needed to make the world a better place.
