In today’s society, opportunities wait at every corner. The hardest part is realizing that the chance is right in front of you, and all you have to do is choose which direction you want to go; either seize the opportunity or rebuff it. I moved with my family from India to America at the age of two. Seeing how difficult it was for my brother and sister to adjust to a new education system, without getting discouraged, inspired me at the age of five to get a head start on school. I started getting home schooled and was eventually ready to attend school. As years progressed I earned the title as an honors student from sixth grade to present day in college. My sister is my biggest influence and inspiration; she is the reason I strive for success. Seeing her hard work and dedication motivates me to one day achieve great things in the medical field, just like her.

I attend the College of Staten Island and am pursing a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing. Around the age of sixteen I realized my passion for nursing after a family incident. Observing how dedicated and punctual all the nurses were sparked a desire inside of me to one day become just as important and profitable as them.

My goal in the New York Fellows Program is to overcome my fear of public speaking. Accomplishing this goal will take me one step closer to my long term goal of becoming a Nurse Practitioner and opening my own clinic. ANY has opened various doors for me in which I can gain experience, knowledge, and leadership skills that are not only qualities needed in the medical field, but are also necessities of everyday life.
