For as long as I could remember going to college was my biggest dream followed immediately by my desire to become a Registered Nurse. I must say that looking back at these goals, they all have one factor in common – my mother. My mother was and presently is the most influential person in my life. Through my mother’s encouragement, I have gained the ability to dream. She always taught me that dreams have one beginning which is yourself, and only end where you want them to. She motivated me to continue my education in Lehman College so that I would not become another statistic common to first-generation Latino students. My mother wanted me to overcome any obstacle that might get in the way to be able to attain the career that I so longed for.

As a sophomore attending Lehman College, I aim to gain my Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and then transfer to an accelerated Master’s program. Through my volunteer experience at a community hospital, I realized that becoming a nurse is the career that best suits me as it requires patience, enthusiasm, and someone who can take on a challenge. I would like to continue working in an atmosphere where people need to be treated and cared for leaving me accomplished at the end of each day. I believe America Needs You will provide the guidelines necessary to help me achieve these goals, one step at a time, and keep me working towards a bright future.
