Being born and raised in New York has taught me both independence and to appreciate difference. I come from a very large, tight knit family with roots that stem from both the Deep South and the Caribbean. At a very young age my family instilled the values of responsibility and hard work in me.
My passions lie in both helping people and expressing myself through the arts. To combine my interests, I am double majoring at Lehman College, studying psychology and theater. In high school I was a proctor, a job very similar to that of a college Resident Assistant. I was able to help the underclassmen with issues stemming from their academic and personal life, which is where I developed my interest in counseling. My love for theater, specifically production design, also started during high school where I completed twelve shows before graduation. I want to use the combination of my majors to go into art therapy. At Lehman College, I am a Peer Educator at the counseling center, which will provide me experience with the age range I hope to work with in the future.
As someone who is already determined to succeed, being a part of ANY is a dream come true. ANY provides me with professional development training as well as surrounds me with a network of peers who are just as eager to learn and grow as I am. I’m proud to be a 2015 New York Fellow.
