After being born in New York and living there for six months, I was brought back to my home country, Senegal, West Africa, with my two sisters. In 2011, I moved back to the United States with my family and in 2014, I enrolled in Bronx Community College, where I am pursuing an associate’s degree in Dietetics and Nutrition. After I earn my degree, I will transfer to a four-year institution and earn a bachelor’s degree. I am an active member of the Muslim Student Association and also in Phi Tata Kappa Honor Society in my school. In addition, I am a 2015 fellow of the African Women Leadership Program.
I chose my major because I aspire to become a Nurse Practitioner. My passion for health stems from my experience living in Africa, when I witnessed many people suffering from diseases and other health issues On a daily basis, I would try to think of ways to improve the conditions or help those who were in need. This ultimately led to my decision to major in the medial field and pursue a Nurse Practitioner career path. I want to use my knowledge and experience to become a leader in the field and I am confident that America Needs You will help me achieve this goal. As an ambitious, team player, who always like to share ideas, I know that I will not only gain a lot from the America Needs You program, but I will also add value to it.
