I consider myself lucky to have been accepted into Baruch through the Urban Male Leadership Academy (UMLA). The UMLA is a program geared towards the advancement of urban men in institutions of higher learning as well as professional environments. It saved my life. It was a chance at redemption, a chance that I will never let slip away. I have since become High School Outreach Coordinator for the UMLA and it is rewarding to give back to such an important part of my life.

I work hard every day to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Finance and Investments at Baruch with the goal of getting into the financial industry. I am also involved with programs outside of school like Streetwise Partners with Marsh and McLennan, which have improved my sense of responsibility and accountability. They helped me work harder in academics, improve my time management skills, and grow as a professional.

Another passion of mine is helping people. With my role in the UMLA, I can help incoming college students by mentoring them as well as lead a team of my peers towards academic and professional excellence. Stemming from this position, I was able to work part-time at Baruch as an office assistant to counselors in the Search for Elevation, Education, and Knowledge office. I then was able to secure a finance internship working directly with the company leaders of SPEAR Physical Therapy. In the fall, I will start an internship with Monarch Wealth and Business Management, where I will work with Account Managers to support them with the management of client finances. Ultimately, my career goals are to aim high in the financial industry and sharpen my skills while staying active and giving back to the community.
