My name is Laylaa and I was born and raised in Albany Park, Chicago. Being a part of the life my family has worked hard to create for themselves, I often forget about what they went through to have it. My grandfather left his home country at 17 years old, with only a few dollars to his name, to search for a better life. My family and I are proof that it was worth it.
My family has taught me the value of hard work, humility, and perseverance. I am currently a sophomore at DePaul University majoring in psychology with the goal of becoming a clinical psychologist. Helping people is something I am passionate about, and psychology allows me to fit a wide range of my interests into one category. This year I had the opportunity to volunteer at the Midwestern Psychological Association’s annual conference. Seeing all of the work, research, and dedication psychologists put into their fields gave me even more respect for what they accomplish. These attributes are what inspire me to become a psychologist.
Through America Needs You, I hope to gain more knowledge about the professional world and have experiences that help me grow professionally and personally.
