I am a student at Seton Hall University, where I am pursuing a degree in Nursing. I come from a large Ecuadorian household, where my parents constantly push me to do well in school in order for me to have a stable career and not have to work strenuous jobs like they do. They are my biggest motivators to never give up, even when things get tough. By earning a Nursing degree, I will not only make my parents proud, but also show my siblings that anything is possible and I will be their role model which I have always strived to be.
From a very young age, I was always interested in the medical field. My passion for this field came from my constant exposure to hospitals. My father, unfortunately, suffered from a rare condition that caused him to be in and out of hospitals. After this experience I became fascinated with the role of nurses. I liked how they were able to have a relationship with their patients and were so caring towards everyone.
I am so excited to be part of such an amazing organization like America Needs You. As a first generation student, I sometimes felt that I was facing the whole college process alone because my parents did not understand how higher education worked in the U.S. With help from the Mentor Coaches I will receive the proper guidance to get internships that will allow me to gain the necessary experience to attain my dream job.
