Being raised by a single mom I learned the values of education, independence, and hard work. I learned to value what I have been given and to always help those who need it. She is the reason I chose to pursue a degree in psychology and a career in law. After earning a double bachelor’s degree in psychology and criminology, justice, and law at UIC I plan to attend law school with the intent of becoming a defense attorney.
I aspire to work within our legal system to help make a difference in the lives of low income families. Currently I strive to make a difference in the minds of teenagers at my former high school by volunteering to speak to freshman in my district. I talk about my senior year, share my fears about not being able to afford college, and I help them realize that they cannot let financial status define who they are and what they do in life. I want to make my mother and everyone else who supported me proud by refining my skillsets that can be s a resource to the community.
As a driven student, I know ANY will give me the tools I need to enter and to be a part of the professional world. I am grateful I am able to utilize the leadership and communication skills that ANY and my Mentor Coach will teach me; these skills will help me make an impact in my community both as a student and as a professional.
