Throughout my life, I have received immeasurable support from two special people: my father, Raymundo, and my late mother, Rafaela. Both immigrated from Tulcingo de Valle, Mexico so that my siblings and I could have promising educational opportunities. My parents taught me three guiding values: integrity, respect, and, most importantly, hard work. I am also fortunate to have ambitious brothers and sisters who inspire me every day.
Currently, I attend Lehman College where I am pursuing a double major in English and Philosophy. My academic strengths lie in expository writing, rhetoric, and critical reading. In addition, I am a member of the track team where I run the 5,000 meter event. After completing my first year of college, I received the Scholar-Athlete Award from the City University of New York Athletic Conference. Recently, I joined the Mexican American Student Alliance, a local community organization, to assist underserved students as a volunteer tutor.
I am grateful for the opportunity to be an America Needs You Fellow. My goal is to develop meaningful connections with Fellows and my Mentor Coach. Furthermore, I will seek opportunities to expand my skillsets and enter the field of professional writing.
