My journey to a brighter future began with migrating to the United States at the age of four from the Dominican Republic. Washington Heights, New York became my home away from home. I was able to grow up with my Hispanic culture while assimilating into the American culture.
My immediate goal is to pursue a bachelor’s degree and eventually explore a career in marketing. As a child, I was amazed to see huge billboards and screens advertising products. Elective classes such as Project Restaurant and Heaf Apprentice offered in my nonprofit program called HEAF helped further my interest. Currently, I am an active member of Emerging Scholars where we are in the process of creating a program that helps students transition to high school. I am in charge of administrative work and assist with digital marketing tasks. My long-term goal is to help an organization market its mission to an audience of individuals in lower income communities. In doing so, I would help members of this audience attain the resources they need to improve their state of well-being.
As a goal-driven student, ANY will help me further my skills so that I can serve low-income communities. With the help of my Mentor Coach, I will achieve my personal and professional goals. I am proud to be a part of 2015 New York Fellows class.
