I am originally from the Dominican Republic and I have been living in the United States since I was 12 years old. I currently attend Medgar Evers College and after I obtain an associate degree in Liberal Arts with a concentration in Psychology, I plan to transfer to another four-year college to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Psychology.
Through volunteering at church programs for children, being part of youth groups, and being a counselor intern at a high school, I discovered my passion for helping others. Additionally, immigrating to the United States at a young age showed me the importance of having the emotional support of family and friends. These experiences helped me to determine what I want to do for the rest of my life: help families and children build a safe, healthy and stable environment at home.
My goal is to work as a school counselor, in a hospital or any other organization where I can accomplish my dream of helping others. America Needs You offers me the opportunity to network and guided towards reaching this goal. At ANY, I can safely express myself and be helped to improve professionally and personally with the guidance of my Mentor Coach and the ANY family. It is a pleasure to be a 2016 Fellow and I hope to give back to the program in the future!
