I am a Mexican American first-generation college student, currently enrolled at The University of Illinois at Chicago. I am pursuing a bachelor’s degree in neuroscience, after which I plan to enroll in medical school.
I have wanted to be a doctor since I was a little girl. I never knew exactly why until I joined a non-profit organization, buildOn, which empowers young students to view the world differently through volunteering. My experience with buildOn helped me to realize how much I enjoy helping people. I want to be a doctor so that I can not only attend to patients, but to care for each one of them. My family has taught me that success is not just what I do for myself, but what I do for others.
Now that I am at college I am continuing my passion. I am part of the Honors College at UIC and of the Society of Future Physicians (SFP). I also will be volunteering in the Obstetrics Department of the University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System. My Goal is to one day develop a program where doctors volunteer and assist people who cannot afford basic health necessities.
As a passionate student and a leader, I will build professional confidence through ANY. With the help and support of my Mentor Coach and the ANY program, I hope to continue to thrive and meet both my personal and professional goals. I am honored to be part of the America Needs You family.
