Born and raised in the Bronx, I had the privilege of being exposed to different types of cultures. Even though I come from a Mexican background, my favorite food is Dominican/Korean cuisine. I discovered this in high school, as well as my preference for R&B and basketball. With all this exposure to diversity, it has changed my perspective of the person and the career path I want to follow.

Towards the end of high school, I met a history teacher whose teaching style really connected with the students. With this particular history teacher, everyone passed with flying colors, and I have noticed why. Although the content was difficult, everyone wanted to do the work. This was a result of how my history teacher focused on connecting with students while teaching and understanding how everyone was unique and with different points of view. From this point on, my life changed completely, and so did my vision for the career I wanted to pursue.

I’m currently attending City College, and I have decided to work towards a career in education to inspire students who give up on school. I want to show them that there are teachers and counselors who will not only encourage them to enjoy school, but also help to provide options for their future.
