As the daughter of Mexican immigrants who came to this country in search of greater opportunities, I grew up with a deep appreciation for hard work, sacrifice, and education. I am now a student at the University of Illinois at Chicago, working towards a bachelor’s degree in public policy. I am also a member of my school’s undergraduate student government and a resident assistant for freshmen.
In pursuit of my interests in policy and public service I interned at Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth’s office. During my internship I helped open cases, brief caseworkers on policies and handle constituent concerns. As the Student Organization Liaison of UIC’s Undergraduate Student Government, I was the link between student groups seeking funding and the student government. I assessed data given to me from organizations and gave a recommendation to the rest of the assembly based on the net benefit to the school. Beyond college I would like to elaborate on the leadership I have developed throughout my school tenure.
Through ANY I hope to gain resources to maximize my potential in both my professional and personal capacities. Through the professional network of Mentors Coaches and other Fellows on the same journey of education and success, I would like to push myself further as I learn of new opportunities. Already I have discovered new avenues that I had not heard of prior to my participation in ANY. I am feeling confident in pursuing those new possibilities with the professional tools that I am developing through ANY such as networking and resume building.
