I was born in Colombia and moved to America when I was five years old. I was raised by my parents in a small town called Cliffside Park, in the northeastern part of New Jersey. Growing up as a first-generation American, my childhood consisted of learning and adapting to new situations. This experience helped instill important values in me. It opened up my mind and taught me to respect the values of others’ cultures. I learned aspects of different languages from the people around me, while still maintaining my native-tongue: Spanish. I spent most of my free time working various jobs to gain experience.
I am currently attending Rutgers University in New Brunswick. I am pursuing a double major in economics and mathematics, with a focus in the financial and actuarial field. I hope to be opened up to various areas of the business world. My goal is to attain a job in the business sector where I can thrive not only for myself, but assist the company in their success as well. In addition to school, I work in order to support myself, and I also spend time playing sports.
I am proud to be an America Needs You Fellow. My goal for this program is to take advantage of all its opportunities and resources and use them in my quest for success. I have embarked in a journey that many have also attempted before me—to live the American dream.
