Being the oldest child, I encountered many firsts: first quincañera, first to start high school, and first to go to college. While my education path has not been easy, I have had many people who have helped me along the way. Their support and the opportunities that they have offered to me have made me ambitious and determined to accomplish my goals. I am currently attending Northwestern University, where I am considering a major in psychology, with a focus in developmental psychology and speech pathology. I am also considering a pre-med track.
To gain experience in my areas of interest, I plan to secure internships that will allow me to work with children and teens who have developmental difficulties, so that I can learn how to best aid them. Currently I am a mentor for the organization Strive for College because I want to help high school students receive the support that has helped me during my own academic career. I am still discovering additional interests on a campus that offers many, but one of them is Ballet Folklorico, the traditional dance of Mexico.
ANY will give me the support I need to navigate experiences that can be challenging for a first generation college student. Furthermore, my Mentor Coach will help me explore and deepen my career interests. I am grateful to be an America Needs You Fellow!
