My name is Rekha and I am a first-generation immigrant from Nepal. Currently, I am studying psychology at Harry S Truman College and I am a member of Trio and Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. My passion is helping others and my goal is to become a counseling psychologist.
One experience that inspired this path was working as a singing teacher in a playgroup sponsored by a non-profit organization for low-income immigrant families, where I also helped many Nepalese and Indian people to translate their languages. This job was very rewarding, and I came to feel that there is no work as rewarding as helping others who are in need. As a result, I want to pursue a career as a counselor and psychologist for new immigrants who face the most stress due to acculturation, language, and separation. Being an immigrant myself, I can understand the situation that many immigrants go through and I can be personally connected to their experiences. With continued experience and education, I look forward to using my passion and skills in this profession.
Through ANY, I am learning many professional skills in order to be successful in my career path. ANY will help me to find internships and gain further experience that will provide me with the knowledge I need in the field of psychology. Along with ANY, my hard work, honesty, and love of learning, I can see my passion of helping others become a reality as a counseling psychologist.
