Growing up as a Chicago native, I have developed such a natural fondness for the marvelous city that I decided to stay here to attend DePaul University. For as long as I can remember, my passion has been helping others. Furthermore, I have always been intrigued by the human mind and social interaction. For these reasons, I am pursing a major in psychology to become a child psychologist.

The spark of my career interest was lit by my mother and sister. My mother sailed to America from Vietnam at age 16 and I was born only 3 years later. As a single mother, she was forced to work extremely long hours to provide food and shelter for the family, which included 15-hour workdays. Therefore, from very early on, work ethic was instilled in me. We did not have the resources for daycare or babysitters so the responsibility of watching my sister fell on my shoulders. Through 10 years of taking care of my younger sibling, my devotion of helping children has grown immensely.  My vision is to become a child psychologist in order to fulfill my ongoing mission of treating children with mental illnesses.

America Needs You will give me the necessary professional skills to achieve my vision and mission by providing transformative mentorship and intensive career development. More importantly, my Mentor Coach will assist me in meeting the stepping-stones along my path towards success. I am honored to be a 2015 Illinois Fellow.
