In 2019, I will graduate from Lehman College with a degree in English and concentration in Professional Writing. Though originally from Guyana, I have lived in the Bronx since I was four years old. I was raised by a single mother, and from a young age I’ve valued the essence of strength and hard work. I learned that when life gets tough, you get tougher.
I’m very passionate about writing, reading, and editing. The type of writing I enjoy most is poetry and young adult novels. I discovered this passion after attending a teen writer’s conference called Bronx Loaf during my junior year of high school. During the course of this program, I was able to workshop my short story with an author, which was then published in the Bronx Loaf 2014 Anthology. I returned as an intern for the conference, where I worked closely with the directors and workshop leaders. I also learned a lot more about the publishing process. It reinforced my love for young adult writing. I would like to pursue this passion going forward by being part of the publishing process as an Editor.
I joined ANY because I wanted to be part of a bigger, supportive community. I wanted to break out of my shell and broaden my horizons. I firmly believe that ANY will instill in me a strong sense of community and leadership. Most importantly, the skills that I learn will help me for the rest of my life.
